The Only Self Tanner I will EVER Use!
"I don't like being tan"...said no one ever! I think I can speak for all of us girls when I say that when you're bronzed & sun-kissed, ya just feel better all around. Your complexion looks better, you have a beautiful healthy glow, your outfits look better, everything is just better! BUT, sometimes getting a tan the natural way, from the sun - can be harsh on our skin and cause us to see signs of aging prematurely. (wrinkles, lines, sunspots, etc.) I'm all for a good beach-side vacation and getting a natural, sun-kissed glow, but I'm never outside without some serious SPF on.
In high school - before all of the research and buzz came out about how bad tanning beds were for you - I was all about that fake bake life. Thank goodness my mom taught me the consequences of tanning before I made it a habit. So, I then turned to spray tans - which ended up taking a toll on my wallet (...and my beautiful white sheets!). SO, how was I going to maintain this beautifully bronzed healthy glow that I wanted year-round?
And then, I found St. Tropez! I started using this self-tanning mousse about 6 years ago, and since then I've never not had a bottle in my bathroom! It's easy to apply, affordable, doesn't smell like chemicals, doesn't leave you orange as a Cheeto, and gives you an instant tan that leaves you looking like you just got back from Tulum. (I wish!)
SO, here's the lowdown on St Tropez:
They have tons of different products. My go-to is the Self Tan Dark Bronzing Mousse. The mousse is light weight, smells good, quick-drying, and instant. I have an olive skin tone, so this shade blends really well with my natural coloring. But don't worry girl - if your more fair-skinned, or even naturally darker than I am, they have a shade that works for every skin type & tone!
How to Use It:
All you will need, is the mousse, and an application mitt. The mits are super affordable, and help you apply your tan more evenly, and protects your hands from getting orange or blotchy. I apply the mousse directly to the mitt, and tan my body in circular strokes.
When I Use It:
I use the mousse about 1-2 times a week - or the night before a special event. I'll apply it right after showering, shaving, and exfoliating. If you really want your tan to last longer, I recommend using a dry brush before, to exfoliate your entire body and get rid of any dead skin cells so your tan lays more evenly and lasts longer on your skin.
When to Shower:
Most of the time, I apply the mousse at night & rinse it off in the morning. It's just like a spray tan, once you shower - you will still be tan, but the smell & stick will be gone!
But What About My Back?!
I won't lie, this is the tricky part! Applying the mousse to your back can be difficult - so normally what I do is recruit someone (lol, Nick) to help apply the mousse to my back. If that's not an option for you, just try to your best to apply to the backs of your shoulders and upper back, so the area that is usually exposed while wearing clothes is still tan.
One bottle usually lasts me about 3-4 months. A little goes a long way. And there you have it! I swear I will never use another self tanner again.
